Who Exactly Is Hillary Clinton

Hillary was born in Chicago and had her education from Yale University where she graduated alongside her Husband Bill in 1975. She was to later serve as the first lady between 1993 and 2001 after which she served as an American Senator between 2001 and 2009. Her foray into the world of politics saw her going head to head against Barack Obama. She, however, stepped down against him when she discovered that she didn’t stand much of a chance against him. Upon winning the elections, Barack Obama appointed Hillary as his Secretary of State and she served in that capacity until she resigned in 2013.

She became the first woman in the history of America to be named as a presidential nominee of a major political party. She was defeated by Donald Trump in the elections that were to follow.

What Was Growing Up Like For Hillary

Hillary Clinton was born on the 26th day of October 1947 in Chicago. She was raised by her parents in Park Ridge Illinois a suburb in the downtown area of Chicago. She was the eldest of the daughters of Hugh Rodham who was the owner of a rather successful fabric store. Hillary has two younger brothers Anthony and Hugh. She had a reputation of being an active Republican during her younger days and she campaigned vigorously for the Republican nominee Barry Goldwater back in 1964. She got her inspiration to work in the public service sector after she heard a speech by the famous Martin Luther King Jr.

She is an alumnus of Wellesley College where she got elected as the senior class president before she graduated back in 1969. She worked in several jobs during her summer days as a college student. Back in 1971, she came down to Washington D.C to work on a senate committee on migrant workers. She also worked in the summer of 1972 in the western states for the then-Democratic nominee George McGovern. In the spring of 1974, she rose to become a member of the impeachment inquiry with a mandate to advise the House Committee on Judiciary regarding the Watergate Scandal.

What Is Her Relationship With President Bill Clinton?

She got married to Bill Clinton on the 11th day of October 1975. It is said that before he proposed to her, Bill had gone ahead to buy a house she had once said she liked. She was named among the 100 most powerful lawyers in America back in 1988 and 1999.  During Bill’s campaign to become president in 1992, Hillary stood like a rock for her husband and when he was elected, He appointed her to be the head of the Task Force on National Health Reform. Their marriage was tested when the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal came to light. Even though she showed public support for her husband, she did consider leaving her marriage. But in the end, it did not lead to her husband being impeached and he remained in office.

What Was Her Political Career Like?

The year 1999 came and Hillary decided that she wanted to contest for the New York Senate seat. Despite the challenges she faced on the road to contest, she eventually defeated the Republican candidate Rick Lazio with a rather wide gap. She officially became the first wife of a president to run and win a public office. She also became the first female to get elected into the American Senate from New York. She was re-elected back in 2006.
