Do you live in a place where you can’t grow a big garden? Start a community garden with your friends and neighbors. Sustainable living innovations might begin with using empty plots of land to plant vegetables and herbs to split with the community.

According to a recent survey by Pew Research, more than 64 percent of Americans want a sustainable planet. A sustainable living definition means you want to lessen your environmental impact on the planet. You don’t want to create excess waste.

But what’s the best way to practice sustainable living? How do you become a good environmental steward in your daily life?

Here are five innovative self-sustainable living examples.

So before beginning any sustainable project you must know the environmental liability of the property that you own. With the environmental due diligence checklist, you will be able to manage and reduce the risk of any lawsuits, fines, and ecological remediation

1. Self-Sustainable Living Begins With Food

Growing your own food is one of the best sustainable living ideas. You can have a garden in your backyard, and you can grow what you like. You can reap the harvest of tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, onions, potatoes, and whatever else you choose through the summer and fall months.

In the kitchen, you can use cloth towels instead of paper and start composting. Think about all of the glass jars and coffee cans that you can reuse!

2. Go Solar

Going solar is one of the best ways to create self-sustainable living because you create your own energy directly from the sun. You can hire a solar company to install solar panels on your home, and in no time, you are off the power grid.

The initial investment in solar energy might be pricey, but in the long run, you’ll save money all while practicing one of the truest sustainable living examples. Solar energy reduces your carbon footprint and even allows you to sell the energy you create at your home back to the power company.

3. Fashion

Shop second-hand stores when buying clothes. You can often find great deals at a much lower price. New clothes come at a high cost and are often made in places that don’t support sustainable living.

When buying new clothes, invest in items that may cost more but are also better quality. You’ll spend less money in the long run.

4. Thinking About How You Travel

When you run errands, are you efficient? Do you constantly make trips to the market or to the post office?

Thinking about how you travel can be a big key to sustainable living examples. Cutting the number of trips saves on gasoline and keeps your engine running less. And of course, buying an electric car, using public transportation, riding a bicycle are all great examples of sustainable living ideas.

5. Recycle Anything You Can

Aside from bottles, cans, and plastic bags, think about the bigger items—TVs, tires, metal objects.

While recycling is part of the sustainable living definition, think in broad terms. What can you donate? What can you avoid going into a landfill?

Innovative Ideas for Self-Sustainable Living

Self-sustainable living begins with food, going solar, and making smart fashion choices. You should think about travel and think big when it comes to recycling.
